Bicycle Road-e-O

Since 1979 our club has been co-sponsor with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police of the Rotary - R.C.M.P. Bicycle Road-e-O which aims to teach youngsters to ride bicycles safely, observing applicable regulations. Every year we get anywhere between 120 and 350 kids vying for top honours and prizes. While participants are from Kindergarten age to Grade 6 level, the primary focus is on the Grade 3 students. R.C.M.P. officers visit all Grade 3 classes in the area and talk about bike riding safety. The Bike Road-e-O is a big hit with children and parents alike. Here are a few shots of some of the sillier moments.

Even the Mayor of Port Alberni gets into the racing spirit!!
Go Gillian, go!

So who says the local constabulary doesn't get down to work? Aux. Cst. Loretta Parkinson is in second place in the trike race. But who's the other Clown in front?

1988-89 President Al Kilpatrick, R.C.M.P. Staff Sgt. Steve Vatamaniuck, and Mayor Gillian Trumper getting ready for the Celebrity Race in 1989. Al will be riding the Dental Chair bike which has an offset hub on the rear wheel. No easy task that!
